According to a news release published by EurekaAlert!, Tri-City Healthcare District officially selected UC San Diego Health as its future health care partner, following unanimous approval from the board. This decision marks a significant step in revitalizing Tri-City Healthcare District's 60-plus-year legacy as a community hospital. The collaboration aims to provide affordable, accessible, high-quality health care services across various specialties to the North County region. UC San Diego Health will take on administrative, clinical, and operational management responsibilities, with input from a diverse community board.

Patty Maysent, CEO of UC San Diego Health, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the shared vision of delivering care close to home. "We are delighted that Tri-City has chosen UC San Diego Health as its strategic and operational partner in its efforts to revitalize its 60-plus year legacy as an award-winning community hospital," said Maysent. The collaboration seeks to stabilize, expand, and transform access to health care services, ensuring that all patients in North County have access to high-quality care locally.

Gene Ma, CEO, Tri-City Medical Center, highlighted UC San Diego Health's national recognition for quality outcomes and innovation in information technology as key factors in the decision. The collaboration aims to enhance Tri-City Healthcare District's renowned stroke, heart attack, orthopedic, spine, and robotic care with world-class specialty services. "UC San Diego Health's national recognition for quality outcomes and innovation in information technology, along with its status as the region's only academic medical center, were key drivers of the decision. Ultimately, patients will benefit from access to a leading-edge health care destination," said Ma.

UC San Diego Health aims to enhance clinical quality, patient experience, and cyber security infrastructure at Tri-City through modernizing facilities and technologies. The immediate focus will be re-establishing Labor and Delivery services, making the campus a destination center for pregnancy care in North County. The collaboration also envisions extending UC San Diego Health's capabilities as the only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in San Diego to Tri-City, providing access to advanced cancer care services.

The partnership model involves UC San Diego Health assuming rights and title to District-owned assets and day-to-day operational responsibility for health care services. A 9-member Community Board, comprising representatives from the District Board, Tri-City Healthcare District medical staff, and UC San Diego Health Executive Governing Board, will advise on strategic, operational, and financial decisions relevant to growth strategies in the District's communities.
