The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) featured its Cancer Survivorship Symposium in Orlando, Florida from February 16-17, 2018. The meeting provided information about survivorship issues that both oncologists and primary care physicians are faced with throughout the cancer care continuum.The Symposium was focused on assessing the needs of survivors with a specific focus on ongoing care, surveillance for cancer recurrence, creating plans in the clinical setting, and the care for long-term treatment effects. Included in the Symposium were ample opportunities to meet and interact with some of the most distinguished leaders in oncology.
Topics presented and discussed at the meeting included risk assessment and care-delivery models as well as best practice for providing multidisciplinary education and training.
Journal of Clinical Pathways covered the most prominent abstracts leading up to and during the meeting, including improvement efforts of cancer survivorship care coordination, a novel breast cancer survivorship care model, the impact of care plans on health care delivery and quality of life, and an update on the current state of survivorship care in gynecological oncology.
