MindMed to Study Whether MDMA Can Offset LSD’s Negative Effects
Psychedelic medicine biotech firm MindMed has announced the launch of a clinical trial that will evaluate the use of MDMA and LSD in combination. The trial will look to determine whether MDMA can increase positive subject drug effects and reduce negative emotions and anxiety that are sometimes associated with LSD.
The study will be conducted at the University Hospital Basel Liechti Lab in Switzerland. It is expected to take one year. MindMed said in a news release that if Phase I trial results are promising, the organization will pursue future research projects that evaluate the use of MDMA and LSD in combination to treat various indications and mental disorders.
“I believe that when LSD and MDMA are taken together, they have exceptional potential to open a window into our mind, which will awaken it to new levels of awareness by changing the fluidity of the state of consciousness, amplifying changed perceptions, intensifying emotions, and stimulating novel thoughts,” MindMed president Dr. Miri Halperin said in the release. “It is like a gateway to a multidimensional universe.”
