A dodgeball game for a cause

A game of dodgeball in New Jersey will help high school students dodge some risky decision-making.

Care Plus NJ, Inc., a behavioral health and family services agency in northern New Jersey, on March 21 will co-host its fifth annual dodgeball tournament that benefits a daylong prevention-focused conference at the partnering Manchester Regional High School. The Safe Celebrations conference takes place before prom night to assist seniors in making safe choices around substance use and relationships.

Care Plus NJ operates a state-funded youth services program at the high school. That program’s director, licensed clinical social worker Lorraine Gehrig Mullins, said in a news release, “Over the years, our students have told us that they learned valuable information during the conference that impacted their decision-making on prom night.”

For just a few dollars, individuals and businesses in the community can support the event and donate each purchased ticket back to the school for use by the students. And that way, no one has to relive any painful gym class memories.
