Need some positive vibes these days? A CEO thinks so

Did you wake up to the usual barrage of electronic offers. warnings, and “must-sees” this morning? Did you think that right about now, you could use something more positive to ponder?

Jamison Monroe, founder and CEO of the Newport Academy adolescent treatment organization, certainly thought that. Unlike the rest of us who trudged through our day, however, Monroe decided to mount a counterattack.

Here's what he sent to those on his e-mail list this morning:

Good morning,

Just as you are, we are bombarded with e-mails that are telling us what to buy or what to do, so we just wanted to send you an e-mail that did not promote anything.

We want to let you know that you are absolutely perfect just the way you are.

You are loved by many.

And in case no one told you today, you are beautiful.

Have the most wonderful day,

Jamison Monroe

I asked Monroe what prompted today's message, and he referred to the hundreds of e-mails a week that tell him he needs to do something, or can't miss something else. He says that in his morning meditation “it came to me that I should just send a simple note to let everybody know that they are OK just as they are.” Hearing over and over again that we're not complete unless we have something can harm our sense of self, he adds.

Monroe says, “In today's world we can be consumed with achieving more and reaching further. I'm guilty of this for sure, but when I slow down is when I find myself to be the happiest.”
