I have to admit: I thought of one of those cheesy furniture store commercials the first time I read that a Florida treatment center was offering a new deal of no interest and no payments for six months to prospective clients.
But given the state of the economy and how it might be complicating some individuals' decision to leave their jobs and enter treatment, I would imagine that these kinds of announcements will become more common in the coming months (minus any annoying furniture store voiceovers, I trust). The Delray Beach, Fla.-based Treatment Alternatives launched its new payment option earlier this month and is publicizing it with news releases and announcements on its Web site. "At Treatment Alternatives of Florida we know that many times income is the last thing an addict may have," a Web summary states. "In fact, a high-paying job may be the first casualty of drug addiction." Treatment Alternatives also offers an intensive outpatient option with housing as a strategy to allow more recovering clients to stay employed while in treatment.
