Filmmaker Kevin Hines Discusses "Suicide: The Ripple Effect"
In the video above, filmmaker Kevin Hines discusses his documentary "Suicide: The Ripple Effect" and his future plans. In 2000, Hines leapt off the Golden Gate Bridge in California at age 19. He survived the fall and has since become a world-renowned mental health advocate, motivational speaker, and author.
A screening of the documentary was presented at the third annual Elevate by Psych Congress in Boston, Massachusetts. Hines received a standing ovation from attendees before a question-and-answer session.
Hines said mental well-being and suicide have to be discussed "at the dinner table" and with children starting in the fourth grade. He said he has lost 7 people to suicide, including his biological mother.
"We have to start the conversation when they're young and explain to them that suicide is never the answer. It is the problem," he said.
