Global Wellness Institute Launches Psychedelics-Focused Initiative

Tom Valentino, Digital Managing Editor

The Global Wellness Institute (GWI), a not-for-profit research and educational resource for the global wellness industry, announced that it has launched a new project: the Psychedelics & Healing Initiative, joining a portfolio of 33 similar collaborations in other healthcare specialties.

The initiative is a collaboration between physicians, business leaders, research scientists, investors, and policymakers from psychedelic organizations. The project will focus on psychedelics ethics, safety, and best practices, as well as equity, access, and reciprocity. The initiative will support those in the field who are generating resources for psychedelic medicine ethics and standards, and provide online resources, policy updates, continuing education, and regional outreach.

Rick Doblin, PhD, founder of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) and a Sana Symposium Steering Committee member, is serving as the initiative’s honorary chair. Dr Doblin delivered a keynote at the 2021 Global Wellness Summit in which he outlined a future for psychedelic-based medicine taking a place among established preventative and self-care approaches in helping to foster wellness. Lynn Marie Morski, MD, JD, president, Psychedelic Medicine Association and Sana Symposium Steering Committee member, is also among the founders of the Psychedelics & Healing Initiative.

“Psychedelic healing has arrived,” Susie Ellis, GWI chair and CEO, said in a news release. “As this movement grows and receives regulatory approvals, an initiative that brings together respected leaders to focus on evidence-based best practices, equity and accessibility, is very much needed if we want to realize the potential for psychedelics in helping address the global mental health crisis.”
