Using Genetic Testing to Find the Right Dosage

Genetics are becoming a part of daily psychiatric practice, particularly for determining correct dosage. Charles Raison, MD, Psych Congress Steering Committee member and Doris Greenberg, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, talk about clinical scenarios in which genetic testing makes a difference.

Dr. Raison: "When we look at how we use these medicines, a huge elephant in the room is there must be massive differences in what individual patients need, and we don't take that into account."

For more about genetic testing, read Genetic Testing in Clinical Practice: What Psychiatrists Need to Know by Chris Bojrab, MD. Dr. Bojrab includes a handy reference chart explaining the role of important genes.
