Antibiotic Recalled

Sterility concerns have prompted CMC Enterprise Pharmacy to issue a recall for 50-mL bags of clindamycin 900 mg in NS, according to the May 1, 2019, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects 1233 bags distributed in North Carolina from the following lots: EA211905 (Exp. 4/21/19), EB061906 (Exp. 5/7/19), EB131907 (Exp. 5/14/19), EB221907 (Exp. 5/23/19), and EC251909 (Exp. 6/23/19).

CMC Enterprise Pharmacy voluntarily issued the recall April 12, 2019. On April 23, 2019, the FDA designated it a Class II recall. The classification suggests use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Although the likelihood is remote, a possibility of serious harm also exists.

Clindamycin is a lincomycin antibiotic used to treat a slate of bacterial infections.
