IV Pain Med Pulled

Citing a lack of assurance of sterility, Avella of Deer Valley Inc. is recalling 1360 bags of morphine. The recall appeared in the November 7, 2018, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects morphine (1 mg/mL) in NS 100-mL bags from two lots: 7/10/18 0415 24110P (Exp. 11/7/18) and 7/25/18 0247 24110P (Exp. 11/22/18). The bags were distributed across the United States.

Avella of Deer Valley Inc. voluntarily initiated the recall October 19, 2018. The FDA designated the recall Class II November 1, 2018. The classification signals use of the recalled morphine could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Although the likelihood is remote, serious harm is also possible.

Intravenous morphine is an opioid pain reliever used to manage acute pain.
