Using Educational Games to Improve Diabetes Management Among Pharmacy Students

php logoRachel Kavanaugh, PharmD, Nathan Lamberton, PharmD, and Stefanie Lehmier, PharmD, explain why the use of educational games—specifically in diabetes management—is a great addition to other teaching methods for students in pharmacy programs. 

 

About the Study Authors:

Rachel Kavanaugh, PharmD, graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and completed her residency at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin with an emphasis on ambulatory care.  After residency, she worked as an ambulatory care pharmacist at Froedtert Hospital before joining the Medical College of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy in 2016 as an Assistant Professor and their Director of Professional Labs for the second year students.

Nathan Lamberton, PharmD, BCPS, is an Assistant Professor with the MCW School of Pharmacy and a primary care clinical pharmacist with Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Milwaukee Family Medicine residency. He also serves as the Pharmacy Director for the Saturday Clinic for the Uninsured and as co-director for the Urban and Community Health Scholarly Pathway.

Stefanie Lehmier, PharmD, BCPS, is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Pharmacy. Additionally, she serves as a clinical pharmacist in the Ambulatory Care setting at University Hospitals Parma Medical Center where she assists in chronic disease state management. At the time of the study, Dr. Lehmier was a faculty member at Medical College of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy.
