Intravenous Antibiotic Recalled

Jolynn Tumolo

Apollo Care is recalling 225 bags containing vancomycin 1g added to 250 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride because the product appears cloudy, according to the December 15, 2021, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects 260-mL bags (NDC 71170-254-25) from lot AC-016402 (Exp. 2/12/22). The product was distributed in Missouri.

Apollo Care voluntarily initiated the recall October 28, 2021. On December 8, 2021, the FDA designated the recall Class II, signaling use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. A remote possibility of serious harm also exists.

Vancomycin in 0.9% sodium chloride is compounded prescription antibiotic used in clinical settings to treat serious bacterial infections.
