Jolynn Tumolo

Biomic Sciences, which does business as ION Intelligence of Nature, is recalling ION* Sinus Support Nasal Spray because of potential microbial contamination, according to the November 1, 2023, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

In announcing the voluntary recall, Biomic Sciences said the FDA found Microbacterium sp, Fictibacillus sp, Bacillus sp, (primarily B malikii), and Paenibacillus sp in the product.

The recall affects all lots of ION* Sinus Support Nasal Spray, 1 fl oz/30 mL. The spray was distributed to wholesalers, retailers, and consumers throughout the US and in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Great Britain, and the Netherlands, between September 2021 and September 20, 2023. The product was manufactured by ION* Intelligence of Nature, Charlottesville, Virginia.

Biomic Sciences initiated the recall September 29, 2023. On October 24, 2023, the FDA designated the recall Class II. Products affected by Class II recalls may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences if used. While remote, a possibility of serious harm also exists.

ION* Sinus Support Nasal Spray is an over-the-counter nasal rinse.
