Podiatric Dermatology Quiz: What Is Your Diagnosis Of This Lesion?

Tracey Vlahovic DPM
Can you identify the lesion in the photo on the left? It is a rare tumor of soft tissue that is locally aggressive. The lesion typically occurs in young to middle-aged adults, and the most common location is the trunk followed by the extremities. Given the tumor’s non-descript clinical appearance and relatively slow growth, the diagnosis is often delayed. Due to the propensity of this tumor for local recurrence, wide excision, when feasible, is the treatment of choice. Which of the following is your diagnosis? a) Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans b) Kaposi’s sarcoma c) Pyogenic granuloma d) Spitz nevi e) Dysplastic nevus Please leave your answer in the comment section below. I will share the answer in the next couple of days on Facebook and Twitter, and at the end of my next blog.
