Kick Foot Odor To The Curb With A New Antimicrobial Shoe Shield

Podiatrists looking for an efficient, natural way to combat and neutralize shoe odor may want to consider a new antimicrobial shoe shield.

The Clean Sweep™ Antimicrobial Shoe Shield™ is a clear, flexible antimicrobial spray that works inside the shoe and the manufacturer Tetra says the product eliminates 99.9 percent of odor-causing bacteria and fungus on contact.

Clean Sweep utilizes a nanosilver formula to kill bacteria safely and effectively, and neutralize the causes of shoe odor, notes the company. The silver nanoparticles come in contact with moisture and release very low levels of silver ions that prevent microbes from growing.

In addition, Clean Sweep’s clear and flexible antimicrobial micro-coating provides a shield, effectively keeping footwear microbe-free, explains Tetra.

Kelly Geoghan, DPM, attests to Clean Sweep’s efficacy in combating foot odor and recalls similar feedback from her patients who use Clean Sweep.

“Feedback has been very positive and promising. The patients have noted decreased odor of their feet and shoes,” says Dr. Geoghan. “In fact, some have purchased extra for the other family members.”

Since Clean Sweep is non-toxic, hypoallergenic, environmentally safe and contains no fragrance or colors, Tetra explains that your patients can use Clean Sweep daily.

The hypoallergenic, bactericidal, fungicidal and virucidal properties are an added bonus to Dr. Geoghan, who explains Clean Sweep has become an integral part of her toenail fungus treatment armamentarium.

The manufacturer recommends that consumers spray Clean Sweep directly into each shoe and allow them to dry overnight, repeating the process until the shoes are odor free.

“Patients with hyperhidrosis will typically have more odor so an antiperspirant spray may help but the Clean Sweep absolutely rids the shoes of odor,” notes Dr. Geoghan, a board-certified surgeon and Aesthetic Podiatry Specialist in Lutherville, Md.

According to Dr. Geoghan’s experience, Clean Sweep can begin working as early as one week after treatment. However, she cautions that depending on the age of the shoe and type of shoe gear, patients may need to use the spray for a longer period of time. Dr. Geoghan notes that she has yet to see any drawbacks with using Clean Sweep.

“In the past, I have suggested powder or deodorant sprays to keep feet dry and to decrease odor. These have worked minimally,” adds Dr. Geoghan. “It is so great to finally have a solution to this embarrassing problem.”
