Clinical Tips: Tinea Faciei and COVID-19

December 2021

Social Media and Advertising Tips:  Part I

Social media and social media advertisements kept my business, Las Vegas Dermatology, alive during the pandemic. Here are a few things that I learned:

  1. I found that Instagram ads directing people back to our @lvderm Instagram page worked better at gaining more new followers than advertisements directing to an external link.
  2. Target your Facebook or Instagram advertisements based on the demographics of the patient you want to bring in to the practice.
  3. To gain more Instagram followers, try a contest to give something away for free, such as botulinum toxin injections, facials, chemical peel, etc. We make winners do a few things for a chance to win, such as like the post, make a comment, follow @lvderm, tag three friends and post the contest on their story.

Preventing Fungal Spread

For patients with tinea pedis and/or onychomycosis—tell patients to put socks on before putting their undershorts on after the shower, unless they want jock itch too. They pull undershorts up from the feet to the groin.

Tinea Faciei and COVID: What’s the Connection?

Be on the lookout for tinea faciei caused by COVID-19. Well, not directly caused by COVID, but because people are social distancing due to COVID, they are getting lonely at home. They then decide to adopt a COVID pet from the pound, they snuggle the cute little puppy against their face, and they end up with dermatophyte infection.
