Melanoma Monday is May 6th

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has designated the first Monday of May as Melanoma Monday, and, this year, the day is Monday, May 6.

The AAD started this observation in order to raise awareness about melanoma and other types of skin cancer and encourage early detection through self-exams. The AAD provides a toolkit on their website to help disseminate information about melanoma and encourages the use of the toolkit items in honor of Melanoma Monday. The toolkit features a social media toolkit, information for locating free skin cancer screenings, instructions on performing a self-skin exam and more.

For more information about Melanoma Monday and the AAD’s Spot Skin Cancer campaign – an initiative that aims to educate the public about skin cancer and motivate individuals to make positive behavior changes to prevent and detect skin cancer – please visit https://www.aad.org/spot-skin-cancer/about-spot#.UYQNr4LI1aE.
