World Eczema Day: Patient-Led Initiative to Improve Eczema Care

An international group of patient organizations have jointly launched the Global Patient Initiative to Improve Eczema Care (GPIIEC), a collaboration to establish a standardized patient-perspective assessment of atopic dermatitis care.

The partnership, announced on World Eczema Day, is the first of its kind to identify the areas of health care that matter most to patients with AD and their caregivers. It also seeks to establish indicators with which to measure these areas across Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Germany, United States, and United Kingdom).

GPIIEC will create a comparative, data-driven dashboard of eczema care through surveys and data collected from the countries. Using the different data, GPIIEC will then develop insights into each country’s strengths and weaknesses in caring for people with eczema. The goal is to create policy recommendations for addressing the weaknesses and building upon the strengths to lead to improved outcomes.

The new collaboration includes representation from the Global Parents for Eczema Research (US), National Eczema Association (US), Marjolaine Hering, Association Française de l'Eczéma (France), Deutscher Neurodermitis Bund German Atopic Eczema Association (Germany), Atopisk Eksem Forening (Denmark), Associazione Nazionale Dermatite Atopica (Italy), Canadian Skin Patient Alliance (Canada), National Eczema Society (United Kingdom), International Topical Steroid Awareness Network (US), Eczema Support Australia (Australia), and Eczema Association of Australasia (Australia).
