The backing film is vapor permeable and shower proof.

Derma Sciences

Princeton, NJ • www.dermasciences.com
(800) 825-4325 / cs@dermasciences.com • Founded: 1984

1) How many types or lines of foam dressings does your company currently make? Derma Sciences currently manufactures three lines of foam dressings; our traditional Sorbacell® and Hydrocell® Foam, and our novel Super Absorbent Polymer XTRASORB® foam dressings.

2) What is your best selling foam Dressing? Derma Sciences’ Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) foam dressings, XTRASORB®, are novel and technologically advanced dressings for moist wound healing. Continuing to gain attention and acceptance by health care professionals because of its novel capability and capacity, the super absorbent polymers in XTRASORB allow the dressings to absorb 2 - 4X the amount of fluid of conventional highly absorbent dressings. Through its patented SAP gel layer, XTRASORB converts the fluid into a high-tensile-strength gel, locking it within the dressing, and away from the wound. This action helps to prevent maceration and reduce exposure to harmful components within wound fluid, such as bacteria and MMPs. Because of the patented gel locking layer, XTRASORB dressing have extended wear time (based on the exudate level) which can reduce the amount of trauma to the wound area and offers a more cost effective option of care.

3) What are some unique features of this product? XTRASORB offers a unique mechanism unlike any other dressing on the market. The ionic-charged chains within the SAP gel-locking layer help to create an osmotic pull of fluid from within the wound. By incorporating technologies into moist wound healing dressings that can exert an osmotic pull on fluid, enable dressings to go beyond the passive collection of drainage and expand their clinical benefit to include the reduction of edema, helping to improve vascularization, protease modulation, and improved debridement. XTRASORB® is truly redefining the expectations of absorptive dressings to help clinicians gain more control over their patient’s wound bed environment.

4) What year was this product first created? The XTRASORB brand came to the market with our Classic dressing for heavy plus exuding wounds in 2008. Derma Sciences expanded the line of SAP dressings to include a Hydrocolloidal sheet and our foam dressing in 2010.

5) Is this product sold in bulk and if so what are the bulk amounts? XTRASORB Foam dressings come in an adhesive and non-adhesive dressing. We offer a variety of size configurations for ease of use and application.

6) Does the product come with a manufacturer’s warranty? No

7) List any add on features that can come with this product. XTRASORB has a full line of Super Absorbent Polymer dressing to help manage any level of wound exudates from dry lightly draining wounds through to heavy plus exudating wounds.

8) How does your product stand out from its competition? Conventional absorptive dressings like foams and ABD pads have fluid freely moving within the dressing, which can be released back into the wound bed under pressure. This poses a significant challenge, considering the pressure exerted upon venous leg ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and of course pressure ulcers. XTRASORB® Foam does not allow that to happen by converting the fluid into a high-tensile-strength gel and locking it within the dressings – away from the wound.

9) What is the MSRP price for this product? XTRASORB is very cost-effectively priced for use as a super absorbent dressing. Pricing varies by product configuration and size.

10) Please list any important dimensions and measurements for this product. None

11) Does this product come with any training services provided by your company or application instructions? At Derma Sciences, we strive to deliver strong clinical support so that you have the confidence to use our broad product line appropriately and achieve consistent positive clinical outcomes.
