Most Healthcare Providers Received Flu Shots During 2017-18

More than 75% of all healthcare staff members received their influenza vaccination during the 2017-18 flu season, according to researchers who recently reviewed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The numbers are said to be consistent with more recent trends for healthcare providers having the flu shot administered. Specifically, 78.4% of all healthcare personnel reported receiving the flu shot, with coverage around 95% for those whose employers required them to be vaccinated. Coverage was less than half of those working in settings where vaccination was not required, promoted, or offered onsite, according to the researchers. The data and analysis were recently published in the CDC digest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The sample of respondents reportedly included more than 2,000 people who work within the healthcare industry.

The vaccination rates were reportedly highest among those working in hospital settings (91.9%) and ambulatory care (75.1%). More than 95% of physicians were said to be vaccinated.
