The original 3M Coban 2 Layer Com­pression System launched in 2006; the 3M Coban 2 Layer Compression System (expanded sizes) will launch in October 2015.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Patients living with venous leg ulcers, lymphedema, and other conditions for which compression therapy is appro­priate want to engage fully in daily ac­tivities — without feeling uncomfort­able or self-conscious about what’s on their legs and feet. To help people with edema meet their goals for health and quality of life, 3M turned to the science of pressure mechanics to create a light­weight wrapping system that delivers effective compression without causing pain. Studies from clinicians around the world, including randomized controlled trials, provide evidence that Coban 2 Layer Compression Systems:

• reduce chronic edema;
• support healing and reduce wound size;
• provide sustained, therapeutic com­pression without slipping;
• significantly reduce leg pain;
• are safe and well-tolerated;
• are easier to apply and remove than zinc-paste bandages; and
• are preferred by patients.

HOW IS THE PRODUCT UNIQUE?

Coban 2 Layer Compression Systems are designed to get patients back on their feet. The materials used in the two-layer sys­tems create a thin, lightweight, breathable sleeve that allows patients to wear their own shoes and clothing. The system gen­erates sustained working pressures and comfortable resting pressures, making the compression easy to tolerate regardless of activity level. Because the bandages are low profile and comfortable to wear, patients are more likely to keep them on, increasing concordance and the potential for more effective treatment. The compression layer of Coban 2 Layer Compression Systems is designed to be applied at full stretch, elimi­nating guesswork.

ARE VARIATIONS/MODELS OF THE PRODUCT AVAILABLE/PLANNED?

3M Health Care will be releasing the next phase in the Coban 2 Layer Com­pression System, which aims to fill vari­ous size gaps for patients today. In addi­tion to the standard existing sizes to treat lower leg conditions, Coban 2 will aid clinicians to cover their patients from hip to toe with the following new sizes:

• 4 in. XL kit for wrapping a highly contoured lower leg
• 6 in. kit for wrapping above the knee
• 2 in. kit to address edema in feet and toes.
