Maine Hospital Launches Wound Care Clinic
Officials at Blue Hill (ME) Memorial Hospital have announced the opening of a new program for the treatment of chronic wounds. The interdisciplinary team of clinicians includes Nan Boutin, RN, CWCA; Fred Watters, MSN, FNP-C; Monica Coffey, MSN, FNP-C; and Meagan Hashey, PT, WCC. “There have been so many changes in both medicine and society that have created this need for advanced specialty wound care,” said Boutin, a 30-year employee of the parent hospital system EMHS. “Today, people are living with extremely complex wound and skin complications. For example, years ago, limbs would have been amputated because of a serious wound, diabetic problem, or trauma. Now, we are able to treat these critical wounds, provide education and long-term follow-up care, and ultimately help our patients heal.” The BHMH wound care team is working with primary care providers across the region, including vascular, surgical, and dermatologic specialists.
Hospital to Expand Wound Healing Center
The Wound Healing Center at Lake Wales (FL) Medical Center is getting an expansion. Hospital staff, administration, and community members recently celebrated the upcoming new facility with a groundbreaking ceremony, according to a report by The Daily Ridge. People gathered around the designated construction zone for the upcoming expansion of the Tuesday evening. The new center is expected to be nearly double the size of the existing center (5,100 square feet) and include six treatment rooms, three hyperbaric chambers, a private waiting area for hyperbaric therapy patients, and a larger lobby with enhanced wheelchair and stretcher accessibility. Tiffany Rodriguez, RN, serves as program director and James Nelson, MD, serves as medical director.
New Wound Care Clinic Opens in New York
Officials at Saint Joseph's Medical Center, Yonkers, NY, have opened a new Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, according to a report by The Journal News. The new outpatient facility offers a team of physicians, nurses, and technicians with advanced training in wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, according to the report.
“The addition of a wound healing facility to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center benefits numerous patients in the community suffering with complications from diabetes or other types of non-healing wounds,” said James DeMeo, DPM, co-medical director of the facility. “Our goal is to return patients to their daily lives as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Wound Clinic Director Wins Award
Michael Hortner, MD, director of Sacred Heart Wound Center, Allentown, PA, was recently awarded the seventh annual Physician of the Year award by SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice.
According to a report by the Public Opinion, a USA Today brand, the agency created the award to recognize the value of physician care in helping its clients and participants remain independent. The award honors physicians who exhibit an exemplary degree of dedication to the health, comfort, and quality of life of his or her patients; shows commitment to bettering the community through actions; provides the highest quality of healthcare; and recognizes the value of home and community based services in achieving these goals, according to the report. n
