Tegtmeyer Annual Lecture Presented by Ziv Haskal, MD, at ISET 2020

Hollywood, FL (January 24, 2020) – Selected to present this year’s Tegtmeyer Lecture at the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy (ISET) was Ziv Haskal, MD, Professor/Fellowship Director of the Division of Interventional Radiology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Haskal presented “Embolization: The Universe in a Grain of Sand.” Dr. Tegtmeyer published on embolization (iatrogenic hemobilia) as well as vascular disease, noted Dr. Haskal, who then described two of his patients who experienced sudden hemobilia in the same week. Dr. Haskal looked back at some of the history of scientific research into the use of embolization and detailed the “embo universe” of current and future tools, sharing his anticipation of entirely new applications for embolotherapy going forward.

The Charles J. Tegtmeyer, MD, Annual Lecture was established in 1997 to memorialize Dr. Tegtmeyer’s contributions to ISET, including his passion for education and interventional technologies. “This is a time to remember a close friend and colleague who was part of the pioneering of the early age of endovascular therapies,” said ISET Course Director Barry Katzen, MD. “He lit up the room; anyone who met him would never forget him.” Previous Tegtmeyer Lecture awardees include Drs Ansel, Ring, Dake, Sos, Rosch, Keller, White, McLean, Laird, Palmaz, Mathias, Vogelzang, Lammer, Perler, Mauro, Roberts, Olin, and many others who embody the distinctive qualities of Dr. Tegtmeyer.

Dr. Ziv Haskal, honored in 2020, has given more than 500 invited lectures worldwide and been awarded numerous honorary fellowships and national, international, and societal awards for leadership, service, and research excellence. He has designed, participated or led more than 40 research trials. Dr. Haskal has also published more than 400 scientific manuscripts, chapters, review, abstracts, and editorials. He co-founded the world’s largest scientific congress on embolization (GEST) and led the Society of Interventional Radiology’s (SIR) Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr. Haskal is also the editor in chief of two peer-reviewed journals, the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) and Gastrointestinal Intervention. His published research has spanned oncology, portal hypertension, venous disease, liver transplantation, peripheral vascular disease, uterine fibroid embolization, interventional oncology, human gene therapy, and hemodialysis-related matters, among other areas of study.
