SAWC Fall in Las Vegas

Attendees of the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, September 26–28, 2015 will be able to: choose from more than 40 educational sessions across 4 dynamic tracks, earn up to 24 continuing education credits, create their own personalized agenda, and meet 90+ exhibitors on the exhibit floor, where food and beverages will be provided.

For its part, the AAWC provides unique, informative programs, which include  the Association’s 20th Anniversary Membership Meeting, where you can receive a light breakfast and a commemorative gift; the AAWC Research Poster Grand Rounds (Session 34); AAWC Speaker Training: Delivering an Effective Message to Colleagues, Patients and Just About Anyone You Meet  (Session 35); and information about AAWC Global Volunteers: Optimizing Patient Care with Limited Resources and Exploring Volunteer Opportunities (Session 43).

AAWC Annual Report Released

The AAWC Annual Report was emailed to all members at the end of August. It is packed with information and news related to project and program development. Consider joining to stay in the know all year and to take advantage of many financial and other benefits, including discounts, educational tools, members-only programs, and networking and leadership opportunities.

Excerpts from the AAWC Annual Report include updates from our volunteer committees and task forces, such as the Healthcare Public Policy Committee and AAWC Public Awareness Task Force. In the President’s Message, Vickie R. Driver, MS, DPM, FACFAS thanks the organization, including members, volunteers, staff, and AAWC Board of Directors, for their contributions to the organization’s tremendous success. Dr. Driver explains a few of the Association’s programs and strategic goals. In the Executive Director’s Report, Tina Thomas recognizes the AAWC’s 20th Anniversary and offers reflections regarding the AAWC as an organization and how many refer to AAWC as a “wound care family”.

Of special note are the changes that have taken place within the AAWC International Consolidated Guidelines Task Force (ICGTF), formerly known as the AAWC Guideline Task Force. This team expanded to include representatives from both international and interdisciplinary wound care societies, with a goal to improve consistency in guidelines across wound care societies and to form unified, evidence-based, interdisciplinary wound care standards. Currently, the ICGTF includes the AAWC, Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapists (CAET), Wound Healing Society (WHS), American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Japanese Society of Pressure Ulcers (JSPU), Japan WHS, Mexican Association for Wound Care (AMCICHAC), Brazil Wound Care Association (SOBEST), Australian Wound Management Association (AWMA), and American Professional Wound Management Association (APWMA).
