UPDATED Coding and Billing of tissue diagnostic imaging services utilizing SnapshotNIR®

Kent Imaging Inc., a leading innovator of medical technology, is pleased to announce that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released claims submission guidelines for CPT® Codes 0640T-0642T in the guidance document CR Transmittal Number: R10860CP referenced in the MLN Matters MM12289, published June 30, 2021.

The codes 0640T and 0642T have been classified as reimbursable on a case-by-case basis per MAC discretion.  The code 0641T was assigned to the APC grouper code 5732 for utilization by outpatient facilities.

CPT Codes effective July 1, 2021:

Kent Imaging plans to submit an APC code Revision Request and anticipates further information regarding this request by October 2021. We will also be communicating directly with the individual MACs outlining the positive clinical and financial implications of the SnapshotNIR.

​​​​The CPT codes listed above must be utilized to report the use of Snapshot NIR . The National Correct Coding Initiative states that CPT/HCPS coding must reflect the most accurate description of the services provided. Since the codes 0640T-0642T were specifically designed to reflect the usage of Snapshot NIR , it will no longer be appropriate to utilize Unlisted or Miscellaneous CPT codes for dates of service after June 30, 2021.

Kent Imaging is working diligently with CMS to solidify and enhance the reimbursement for SnapshotNIR. In order to substantiate the need for enhanced and streamlined reimbursement, we are requesting that our customers utilize the 0640T-0642T codes listed above, as well as the APC Code 5732 for outpatient hospital facilities. Inpatient hospital facilities may utilize the ICD 10PCS 8E02XDZ. The utilization of these codes allows us to illustrate to CMS and other payers that providers and facilities are utilizing the SnapshotNIR and find it to be a critical assessment component in the care of their patient populations, especially those that are at high risk for amputation or graft/flap failures.
