Hi, my name is Dr. Brandon Bosque. I'm a Board-certified podiatrist and certified wound specialist physician. And I work in Medical Affairs and Research and Clinical Development at Aroa Biosurgery.
Burns of all ideologies, whether it's chemical, electrical, or thermal are certainly devastating injuries. And the key to treatment of those, whether it's a thermal burn or other ideologies, is getting timely management and timely treatment of those wounds. Often getting timely treatment will minimize the chance of infection, minimize the chance of a thick, painful hypertrophic scar long term, as well as allowing for that optimal fluid resuscitation management, as well as airway management. Oftentimes autologous skin grafting is the gold standard for the treatment of thermal burns.
But sometimes patients are not a good candidate for them. Whether in the short term, because of inflammation of the wound bed or contamination of the wound bed, or long term because of comorbidities, or having that second donor site of injury. Those are some of the issues that can lead to thermal burns being a devastating injury. By getting timely management, especially for thermal burns, where sometimes these patients are in rural areas, they may be camping and might be in an industrial area, they might not think that the injury is that bad, that they put off going to seek treatment, or they just simply aren't able to seek treatment immediately, which can put them at odds for infection or long term problems like painful scars.
