Who is HMP Wound Care?

Dear Readers:

With Wounds moving into its 31st year of publishing and HMP’s 33rd year of business, I’m reminded of all the big and little steps we’ve taken along the way, the relationships garnered, and our ongoing, ever-growing dedication to making health care education practical. In the spirit of growing and evolving, we’ve had eye-opening experiences through speaking with readers of WOUNDS, attendees and speakers of SAWC, and industry leaders.

Over the past few months, I was surprised to learn that not everyone is really aware of who HMP is and what our Wound Care brands are, which was compounded with the mutual decision to dissolve the HMP partnership with AAWC (effective December 31, 2018). The following are some important things I believe every reader and member of industry should know about us.

HMP Global:
We are comprised of 2 companies: HMP Communications, the promotional arm, and NACCME, the accredited education arm. Within these 2 organizations, there are many verticals and therapeutic areas we serve, but HMP Wound Care Division is one of the founding pillars of HMP.

Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Spring and Fall:
These are the premiere national wound care meetings. At SAWC Spring, the Wound Healing Society is colocated and together we draw more than 2000 attendees; additionally, SAWC Fall attracts about 1500 eager minds.

Wound Certification Prep Course (WCPC):
These regional meetings are the most advanced, comprehensive review of wound management and the only review course recommended by the ABWM Foundation. The WCPC prepares attendees for their board certification exams, recertification, or gaining a better understanding of wound care.

Wound Clinic Business (WCB):
The WCB Regionals provide reimbursement fine points that should be mastered to run a successful wound management business. These fine points will pertain to the work of physicians, podiatrists, non-physician practitioners, therapists, and hospital-owned outpatient wound management provider-based departments to help attendees master coding to keep their business on track, learn the audit process to catch problems often leading to repayment, and highlight the overlooked coverage points.

Wound Care Journals & Network

The foundation of our wound care business and a large contributor to our successful events are the journals and digital presence that HMP has built over the past 30+ years. Together, the 4 publications reach about 50 000 practitioners on a monthly basis via print and, more often, online through their websites: Wound Management & Prevention (formerly OWM), Today’s Wound Clinic, Podiatry Today, and Wounds.

Launching in the first quarter of 2019, the Wound Care Learning Network (WCLN) is an online resource for the latest developments in wound care practice, such as clinical insights, peer-reviewed journal content, interactive features, news updates, accredited continuing educational programs, and conference highlights. The WCLN serves as a collaborative learning and networking environment for the multidisciplinary community of wound care professionals. Additionally, all of the above brands will be involved in its platform.

Last, but certainly not least, is the Why Wound Care? awareness campaign that was launched 4 years ago. Originally, this initiative brought awareness to the specialty of wound care for nursing students, but it has now grown to include medical students and residents. In 2019, Why Wound Care? will continue to build by introducing a practicing clinician portal for clinicians that are new to the field or looking to change career paths.

At the end of the day, our mission at HMP, as well as the Wound Care Division, is to educate the wound care audience with practical, clinical research; reimbursement, auditing, and coverage information; certification in the field; and leading information from the leaders in our field at SAWC. On behalf of our Wound Care Division and HMP, I’d like to extend our gratitude and appreciation of your commitment to Wounds and reading us on a monthly basis in print and online. I hope that you learned more about the breadth of our educational opportunities and hope to see you at one of our events in 2019.
