Caron Treatment Centers CEO Sorte to Step Down
Citing “the importance of prioritizing family at this time,” Bradley F. Sorte is stepping down as president and CEO of Caron Treatment Centers, the Wernersville, Pennsylvania-based addiction and behavioral healthcare treatment organization announced on Thursday.
Sorte’s tenure as Caron’s top executive will conclude on February 28, after which he will transition into the role of senior advisor. Effective March 1, Chief Operating Officer Kristine Bashore and Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer David Rotenberg will share duties for the office of CEO and president until a full-time replacement is found. A nationwide search is underway.
“I strongly believe in Caron’s mission, but now am of the belief that I can serve it better in a different capacity,” Sorte said in a statement. “I appreciate the board and community support during my tenure. This was a very difficult decision, but I know that it is what’s best at this time. I will forever be appreciative of the opportunity to have been CEO of the organization that saved my life. I look forward to continuing to champion the Caron mission of ‘recovery for life’ in this new chapter.”
Sorte was appointed as Caron president and CEO in December 2020 and officially moved into the role on July 1, 2021, after the retirement of longtime Caron executive Doug Tieman. Sorte was elevated into the president/CEO position after most recently serving as executive vice president and chief strategy officer. Sorte has been with Caron since 2011.
“We respect Brad’s decision to put his family first in his deliberations, and on behalf of the Caron community, I thank him for his wide-ranging contributions to Caron and the treatment field,” Caron board chairman Thomas F. Flynn, PhD, said in a news release.
“Brad was instrumental in the expansion of our services in Caron Florida and in the planning and the recent opening of The Keele Center, Caron Florida’s new 40-bed, 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art medical facility in Delray Beach. He has been instrumental in laying the groundwork for Caron’s future.”
In the near term, that future will be guided by Bashore and Rotenberg, a pair of longtime Caron leaders.
Bashore, who joined Caron in 2000, oversees operations, regional services, business development, and marketing. She also leads strategic planning, a responsibility that included the development and execution of the organization’s most recent strategic plan.
Rotenberg, who has been with Caron for 23 years, leads its clinical, medical, and psychological services. He specializes in the treatment of co-occurring mental health disorders, relapse, and family issues, and has been recognized for his development of gender-specific programs that emphasize cultural literacy as a key element of behavioral health treatment for young adults.
In addition to its flagship campus, the not-for-profit Caron Treatment Centers operates programs in Palm Beach County, Florida; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Georgia; and New York City.
