NAEMT Celebrates 30th Anniversary

July 2005

Attendees at this year’s NAEMT annual meeting, co-located with EMS EXPO in New Orleans from August 23–27, will be part of a historic occasion: NAEMT’s 30th anniversary celebration.

On September 27, 1975, the first board meeting of the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians was held in Columbus, OH. According to NAEMT’s current president, Ken Bouvier, the vision of the organization’s first members was to create a professional association that would represent all EMTs and paramedics, and that goal has been upheld consistently, he says.

The first members of NAEMT were: A. Roger Fox, Donald A. Cross, Jeffrey S. Harris, David R. Boyd, Stanley Bridges, J.D. Farrington, James Finison, David B. Hill, C. Keli Keliikoa, Rocco V. Morando, Robert E. Motley, James Van Steenburg, Roger D. White, Joseph Young and Walter Young.

Among the special events slated during the annual meeting will be a retrospective video presentation to be shown during the 1970s-themed Annual Awards Banquet on August 27. NAEMT will also display vintage EMS equipment and a restored 1967 Cadillac Superior Rescuer at its booth in the EMS EXPO exhibit hall.

All past presidents of the organization have been invited to attend the annual meeting and EMS EXPO. Under a special NAEMT President Emeritus package, they have been offered free admission to the three-day core program and exhibit hall.
