Commissioners Disband Kansas Emergency Medical Board
09/21/2004
Wyandotte County's Unified Board of Commissioners has abolished the emergency medical control board that had overseen Metropolitan Ambulance Services Trust.
The commission voted unanimously Thursday to disband the medical control board on grounds that its role was largely obsolete, now that the Unified Government has taken over the county's ambulance service.
The medical control board was established in 1995, the same year that Kansas City, Kan., turned over its ambulance service to MAST. The board had regulatory authority over MAST and was positioned to help resolve disputes between the city and MAST.
But when the Unified Government ended its contract with MAST and began providing its own ambulance service July 1 the medical control board was no longer needed, said Fire Chief Tom DeKeyser.
