School-Bus Crash in New York Sends 36 to Hospitals

April 21, 2004 -- Three buses carrying Long Island middle-school students collided on a Clearview Expressway entrance ramp in Queens yesterday morning, sending 36 people to area hospitals, authorities said.
The accident occurred at around 9:45 a.m. when a bus convoy carrying Lindenhurst Middle School students exited the westbound Long Island Expressway in Bayside.
The rear bus struck the middle vehicle, which in turn hit the lead bus.
According to fire officials, 29 kids and seven adults were taken to North Shore and Long Island Jewish hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.
