4-Year-Old Long Island Girl Calls 911 to Save Her Mother

January 26, 2004 -- A 4-year-old Long Island girl was hailed by cops yesterday for saving her unconscious mom by dialing 911 and staying on the phone until help arrived.

Little Brittany Glaser didn't even bother to tell her brother Dylan, 5, who was playing video games in his bedroom that their mom, Patricia, 37, had slipped and cracked her head while doing laundry in their Amityville home Saturday afternoon.

"She handled the whole thing herself," said the mom, back home from Brunswick Hospital yesterday. "She was cool under pressure."

Officer Joseph Slack, one of the cops called to the scene, agreed. "She was real smart," he said.

Brittany took the praise in stride: "I just called the police because Mommy fell and she had to go to the hospital."

Slack said the girl was at the door when paramedics arrived and led them upstairs.

"Later I asked her, 'How did you know to call 911?' and she said, 'I just knew.' So we gave each other a high-five," Slack said.
