Kentucky School Bus Crash Sends 19 to Hospital

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Authorities say a school bus ran off a rainswept interstate in south-central Kentucky and overturned while being passed by a tractor-trailer, sending 16 children and three adults to the hospital.

The bus from a private Louisville school was on a field trip to Mammoth Cave when the crash occurred Thursday morning.

The bus occupants were taken to a Glasgow hospital for injuries ranging from broken bones to cuts and bruises. Authorities said three children and one adult were taken to Louisville hospitals for non-life threatening injuries, while the others were treated and released in Glasgow.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Jonathan Biven said the bus driver initially told authorities he thought the bus was hit by the passing tractor-trailer that didn't stop, but investigators found no evidence of a collision.
