Michigan Firefighters Free Child`s Fingers From Shopping Basket

Joe Guillen

May 04—A young girl's fingers were so severely tangled in a Target shopping basket in Troy on Saturday that 911 was called to set her free.

Unable to detach her fingers with soap, store employees called for help. Troy firefighters and paramedics arrived at the Target on Coolidge Highway and cut the basket with scissors and tin snips around the child's fingers.

The fire department "was happy to assist with this simple but unusual situation and glad that she is OK," according to a news release.

The unidentified girl, who is about 4 years old, was uninjured and returned to her mother, who also was unidentified in the department's news release.

The fire department said it is unknown how the girl's fingers got caught so badly in the hand-held basket.
