Makenzie Holland

Oct. 03--BRUNSWICK COUNTY -- On Sunday, several Facebook posts remembered Mark Gore as a Brunswick County Emergency Services leader and friend. He died on Saturday.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office posted that their hearts are "extremely heavy," noting that Gore was "a true servant to the community with a passion for his work and those he worked with."

Joe Cherry, a member of the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, stated in the Facebook post that Gore "will be missed."

"It is very hard to see one of our own pass," he said in the post. "Mark was a great medic and an essential part of the SWAT team. Mark was on every mission and I never worried because I knew if something went wrong he would fix us."

Gore served as the Brunswick County Emergency Services' EMS operations manager and was formerly chief of the Shallotte Volunteer Rescue Squad, according to his LinkedIn page.

Shallotte Alderman Adam Stanley said in a Facebook post that the town of Shallotte lost a "true icon" to the public safety community.

"Mark was one of the first people that taught me a lot when I entered the public safety world," he said in the post. "My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. He will be missed tremendously."
