REMSA’s Care Flight Receives CAMTS Reaccreditation

RENO, NV—The Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) announced Nov. 11 that Care Flight, the organization's critical care transport service, has achieved re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) for its rotor wing, fixed wing and critical care ground programs.

"Earning accreditation continuously for the past 18 years displays the dedication that our employees have and their passion for providing the best possible care to the communities we serve," said Ron Walter, executive director of Care Flight. "I am extremely proud of our team for achieving CAMTS accreditation yet again and for being able to provide such an admired level of care to our patients."

CAMTS is a collective of nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services. The Commission offers a voluntary program for evaluation of compliance with standards demonstrating the ability to deliver service of a specific quality. Care Flight continues to voluntarily participate in the process. 

Prior to the site survey, Care Flight submitted information that included policies and procedures, meeting minutes, shift schedules, quality metric reports and education records. The program was reviewed on program management and corporate ethics, quality management, patient care, staff onboarding and continuing education, medical direction, communication standards, aviation standards and safety, and pilot and aviation mechanic standards and safety. 

“Care Flight actively participates with third-party accreditation agencies to review our program so we can stay on the cutting edge and maintain the highest standards for our patients and flight personnel,” Walter said. 

Care Flight is a comprehensive, 24/7 transport service with helicopter coverage to more than 54,000 square miles of northern Nevada and northeastern California, in addition to airplane transports across the 11-state western region. Care Flight’s fleet includes four AStar 350 B3 helicopters, a Pilatus PC-12/45 single-engine airplane, and a ground critical care ambulance. Care Flight aviation and medical professionals respond to more than 1,500 transport calls per year. Care Flight’s rotor-wing services are in partnership with Med-Trans and its fixed-wing services are in partnership with Guardian Flight.
