St. Landry EMS Launches Treat-in-Place Pilot Program

PRESS RELEASE

ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA—St. Landry EMS, which serves St. Landry and Avoyelles Parishes in central Louisiana, announced Dec. 11 that the service has performed its first successful treat-in-place visit.

The treat-in-place program was developed by St. Landry EMS in partnership with area healthcare practitioners to relieve pressure on local hospital emergency rooms.

“This will be a game-changer for our communities and residents, and we are excited to support our community in this way during this unprecedented time,” remarked St. Landry EMS CEO Steven Quebedeaux.

Under the program, patients with low-acuity issues contact St. Landry EMS directly and request a treat-In-place visit. St. Landry EMS arrives at the location of the patient, performs a general health check, and video conferences a local health professional for a full treatment plan.

The new program is designed to serve Acadiana residents that would prefer to not risk a trip to the ER during the COVID pandemic, according to a release.

While currently only a pilot program, St. Landry EMS hopes to expand it to the wider community in the future.
