San Diego City Council Unanimously Supports Contract with Falck
PRESS RELEASE
SAN DIEGO, CA—Falck announced April 14 that the San Diego City Council has voted to move forward with Falck as the city’s next emergency ambulance services provider.
The 9-0 vote comes after more than decades without a competitive bid process for the contract, according to a Falck release. During Tuesday’s City Council hearing, dozens of callers voiced their support for changing providers to Falck, the company stated. This is the first of two votes required for the city to sign the contract.
“Falck is honored and privileged to have been selected unanimously to bring improved emergency ambulance service to all San Diegans,” said Troy Hagen, chief commercial officer for Falck. “We are excited to have the opportunity to serve the city and its residents, and we would like to thank city staff, the fire chief, the San Diego Association of Prehospital Professionals, and all of our community supporters for making this vision a reality. You have our word that Falck will make you proud.”
“We’re making the current workforce our No. 1 hiring priority,” Hagen added.
Falck is eager to move forward to the second reading of the item next month, where it is expected that the City Council will formally accept the contract, with service to begin in late 2021, Hagen said.
The outgoing provider, American Medical Response (AMR), has held the contract since 2015, when it acquired previous provider Rural/Metro Corp., according to a release.
