The Importance of COVID Vaccination for EMS and Fire
COVID vaccine hesitancy remains high among some emergency responders. To help combat it, three doctors from the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Emergency Medicine—Frank Guyette, MD, MPH; Christian Martin-Gill, MD, MPH; and P. Daniel Patterson, PhD, MPH, MS, NRP—are working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to develop resources to help educate the hesitant to the vaccine’s safety and importance. They have now released the first of three planned videos, “Importance of Vaccination for EMS and Fire,” available here and on YouTube.
The video features a frontline clinician, flight nurse Mike Schreyer, PHRN, describing his experience with COVID in 2020.
Pitt’s Department of Emergency Medicine also offers other COVID resources for EMS, including sample workplace policies to help organizations mitigate COVID risks. Find those at www.emergencymedicine.pitt.edu/research/covid-19-resources-ems-fire-first-responders-and-clinicians.
