Mylan`s Generic Lipitor Receives Tentative FDA Approval

Mylan, Inc. has received tentative approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to sell a generic version of Lipitor (atorvastatin), the best-selling drug from Pfizer, Inc. that lost its patent protection last November. In a news release, Mylan said it plans on selling 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 80 mg versions of the drug. There are currently 2 generic versions of atorvastatin available. Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. sells an authorized copy of atorvastatin, while Ranbaxy Laboratories, Ltd. also has a generic competitor.
