Anti-Itch Cream Recalled

US Pharmaceuticals Inc. is recalling three lots of hydrocortisone cream 1% maximum-strength anti-itch cream because samples of the cream’s excipient purified water tested out of specification for total aerobic microbial count. The recall was included in the February 13, 2019, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects 2-ounce tubes (NDC 0363-0237-03) from lots 36G17 and 47G17 (Exp. 5/19) and 84J17 (Exp. 7/19). The tubes were distributed by Walgreen Co. within the United States.

The recall was voluntarily initiated by US Pharmaceuticals December 7, 2018. On February 4, 2019, the FDA designated the recall Class II. The classification suggests use of the product could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. Although the likelihood is remote, a possibility of serious harm also exists.

Hydrocortisone cream is a mild corticosteroid medication used to treat insect bites, rash, and other skin conditions.
