Folic Acid Analog Recalled

West-Ward Columbus Inc. is recalling 2300 bottles of leucovorin calcium tablets because the medication is imprinted with an incorrect identification code, according to the August 19, 2020, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects leucovorin calcium tablets, 10 mg, 24 tablets per bottle (NDC 0054-4497-10), from lot 064046A (Exp. 3/22). The bottles were distributed by West-Ward Pharmaceuticals Corp. in Ohio and Mississippi.

West-Ward Columbus Inc. initiated the voluntary recall July 22, 2020. On August 7, 2020, the FDA designated the recall Class III, signaling use of the recalled tablets is not likely to cause harm.

Leucovorin is a prescription folinic acid medication used to decrease the toxic effects of the cancer medication methotrexate. It is also used to treat anemia caused by folate deficiency.
