Hypotension Drug Recalled Over Subpotency Concerns

QuVa Pharma Inc. is recalling 528 bags of norepinephrine 4 mg (16 mcg/mL) added to 5% dextrose, 250 mL-bag preservative free (UPC 70092103417), because the drug may lack its active ingredient. The recall was included in the September 26, 2018, US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Enforcement Report.

The recall affects bags distributed to hospitals in the United States from lot 30000271 (Exp. 10/1/18).

QuVa Pharma voluntarily initiated the recall August 27, 2018. At press time, the FDA had not yet classified the recall.

Norepinephrine is a prescription injection used to treat life-threatening low blood pressure that can occur during surgery or with certain medical conditions.
