Physical Therapist, Registered Nurse Endorse SAWC’s Range of Content

Just as with the practice of wound care itself, the success of the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care is attained through the efforts and participation of healthcare providers across the care spectrum. From nurses on the “frontline” who are writing care plans to physical therapists who steer rehabilitation efforts, the knowledge and networking gained at SAWC transcends all provider disciplines.

“Wound management is a field that truly encompasses multidisciplinary care,” said Valerie Sullivan, PT, MS, CWS, member of the Today’s Wound Clinic editorial board. “As a physical therapist and wound specialist, staying up to date on the latest research specific to wound management as it relates to physical therapy is imperative. At SAWC, I not only learn from other PTs who practice in the wound care field, but learn from and network with professionals from other disciplines who care for our collective patient population as well. Regardless of the healthcare arena that one practices in, you can gain insight on clinical advancements, regulatory issues, and reimbursement changes that affect wound care clinicians. SAWC is a venue that recognizes the value that PTs and all members of the healthcare team contribute to wound healing.”

Fellow TWC editorial board member and wound care provider Trisha Markowitz, MSN, MBA-HCM, RN, CWCN, said the convention is just as valuable an event for nurses. “The SAWC meeting is a wonderful opportunity for nurses,” she added. “I’ve been going for years, and SAWC has been instrumental in building my knowledge and opportunities for professional growth. The conference is designed to meet the needs of all knowledge levels. If you are new to wound care, you can gain core knowledge concepts to help you get comfortable in the field. If you are a seasoned nurse, you will have opportunities to get updated on the basics and advanced wound care concepts, or learn about new fields of research that may impact the future of wound care. SAWC has something for everyone. Once you go, you’ll feel the need to keep going.”
